Introduction
Beautiful green grass and tall trees surround the NC Archeological site Town Creek Indian Mound. Town Creek Indian Mound is located in Montgomery County, North Carolina and was an important ceremonial site to the Pee Dee culture. The land that Town Creek Indian mound is located on was donated to the Archeological Society of North Carolina in 1937 by a local farmer who owned it. Once the Archeological Society of North Carolina received the property in 1937 they realized the historical significance of the land and decided to buy another 50 acres (Shamma, 2013). Many archaeological sites are under investigation for a couple of years before the archaeologists move on to a new location. This has not been the case for Town Creek Indian Mound; it has been the focus of archaeological research for more than fifty years. The site remains the only state historic site in North Carolina dedicated to American Indian heritage (Ferguson, 1995). This paper will focus on the site itself, the culture that helped build it, and the long lasting archaeological discoveries that have take place at the site.
